MP Koimburi hid to evade arrest, says Police

The National Police Service (NPS) has distanced itself from the alleged abduction of Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi.

In response to a viral video showing how the MP was found abandoned at a farm in Juja on Monday, the police criticized him for misleading the authorities. 

“The MP has been under investigation for a land fraud matter, and consent to prosecute was issued by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). On Friday, May 23, the MP, fully aware of the police's intention to arrest him, evaded a dragnet operation, deceived officers by escaping on a motorcycle with his private security, and switched off his mobile phone,” explained NPS.

The police added that they only intercepted his car, which was being driven by the driver who was later released after recording a statement.

When the MP reappeared in Juja today, police visited the alleged crime scene for thorough documentation.

Meanwhile, a special team from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations is analyzing the purported abduction video and all circumstances surrounding the allegations to determine the truth.

The MP was reportedly abducted outside a church in Mugutha, Kiambu County, on Sunday. Video footage from the incident showed Koimburi being driven away in a silver Subaru Forester with civilian registration plates.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who visited the legislator in a Nairobi hospital on Monday, claimed that Koimburi was found with soft tissue injuries from severe beatings.

 Gachagua stated that the MP lost his voice due to a dangerous chemical he had inhaled during the incident.
