Kenya, Uganda issue advisory to citizens in Iran and Israel amid rising tensions

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a safety advisory to Kenyan citizens residing in Iran and Israel following the rising tensions between the two countries.

In a press statement released Tuesday, the Ministry urged all Kenyans currently in the two nations to register with the nearest Kenyan diplomatic missions either in Tehran or Tel Aviv to facilitate communication and potential emergency assistance.

“Register your presence if you have not done so to ensure you can be reached quickly in case of evacuation or emergency support,” the statement read in part.

The Ministry also advised Kenyans to exercise extreme caution, avoid non-essential movement, and stay updated by monitoring local media and security alerts.

It added that the government is closely monitoring regional developments and remains fully committed to the safety and welfare of its citizens abroad.

Meanwhile, Uganda has announced the evacuation of 48 students from Tehran amid growing concerns over the conflict. 

The Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that arrangements had been made with Iranian authorities to ensure the safe passage of its nationals.

“We have engaged the relevant authorities in the Islamic Republic of Iran to ensure the safe passage and evacuation of our nationals from the conflict-affected areas,” Uganda’s statement said.

Kampala has also appealed to countries bordering Iran and Israel to grant its citizens visa-free entry to ease transit and evacuation. 

Ugandan embassies in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar have been instructed to provide consular support to affected citizens.
