As we shout bravo to our heroes and heroines tacked away in many hidden corners of this country, but quietly transforming our society one child at a time, it is important for all actors in the education sector to reflect on the encumbrances that hinder effective teaching.

This day honours the children who participated in the Soweto Uprising on June 16, 1976, and raises awareness of the continuing need for improvement of the education provided to African children.

It remains a given fact that the current IEBC, as it is, cannot conduct a free and fair general election come next year. Even if there were intentions and plans initially to carry out credible elections, the trust of a faction of Kenyans is fast fading out. The integrity of the commissioners has failed the test of Kenyans.

Deputy President William Ruto has time and again threatened to punish those he deems rebels in the Rift Valley. Following the victory of Jubilee, the DP has been coming out triumphantly and issuing numerous unspecified threats to those who opposed him, including the vocal Bomet governor, Isaac Ruto, and Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter among others. However, the DP has misconceived the rebellion in the rift as a personal attack when it is a show of the changing political climate in the country. Kenyans in the Rift-Valley and in the country at large demand value development, accountability and good governance, not intimidation and empty talk.
