The Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat has condemned the killings of South Sudanese nationals in Wad Madani, Al Jazirah State in Sudan.
Through a press statement, Faki also echoed calls by South Sudan's President Salva Kiir to the authorities in Sudan for the heinous crime to be fully investigated and the perpetrators brought to justice.
"I convey my sincere condolences to the families of the victims, the Government, and the people of South Sudan and urge for restraint or any acts that could lead to further violence," Mahamat stated.
The Chairperson reiterated the African Union's call for all relevant actors to urgently continue working with the AU to resolve the intolerable conflict in Sudan peacefully.
This comes days after the government announced a dusk-to-dawn curfew to bring tensions under control.
There has been a spate of attacks on businesses and homes owned by people from neighbouring Sudan. Three houses belonging to Sudanese nationals were set on fire in Aweil area, according to officers.
