A deputy OCS in Nairobi North Sub-region and three other officers were arrested on Thursday in connection with kidnapping with intent to commit a felony.

It is suspected that they kidnapped a couple within Baba Ndogo and demanded Sh1 million ransom.

According to a police report, Kanuti Konrid and Beatrice Naliaka Njoroge who run an online business were to deliver a watch to a client.

Upon arrival, three men appeared and forced them into a waiting motor vehicle in which two other men were seated.

"The complainant was handcuffed and the vehicle sped off towards Thika Road. They were taken to Shell Roasters along Thika Road, where they were forced to withdraw money," the police report reads

It is alleged that the complainant managed to withdraw Sh17,000, which the suspects rejected, demanding KSh 1,000,000 instead.

The suspects then proceeded to Equity Bank, Githurai, where they ordered the complainants to withdraw the said amount. They held the wife hostage in the vehicle and released the husband to enter the bank and withdraw the money.

Reportedly, upon entering the bank, the husband alerted the bank teller, who informed the police officers guarding the bank who raised an alarm attracting other officers who were on patrol.

"Upon seeing the officers approaching, three suspects fled on foot while the driver sped away with the female victim. The officers fired warning shots into the air and managed to corner and arrest one suspect, who claimed that they were five using his Toyota Axio.

Following further probe, the OCS and two other people were arrested and five mobile phones and an Apple smart recovered.
