Dawn fire destroys archived files at Mavoko Law Courts

The Judiciary is investigating a dawn fire incident at Mavoko Law Courts in Machakos that razed a store used to archive closed case files.
According to a statement, the fire broke out at 4.00am on Friday, in the metal container used for archiving closed cases.
The fire damaged archived files, some ICT equipment, and the storage structure.
Luckily, the fire extinguisher team managed to contain the fire within one hour.
The Judiciary however noted that the fire did not interfere with active case files.

To mitigate such incidents in the future, it noted that “the ongoing digital transformation like e-filing and digitising files will be of help.’’
The courts remain operational, as investigations to establish the cause of the fire get underway.
