All-women's varsity set to unveil new courses starting in January

Kiriri Women’s University of Science and Technology (KWUST) is set to introduce new academic programmes in January.

The university’s chancellor, Prof Kihumbu Thairu, said the upcoming programmes are awaiting approval by the Commission for University Education.

“These programmes include; Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration, Master of Science in Information Technology, Master of Education, Bachelor in Science (Cyber Security and Computer) Networks, Bachelor of Education (Science) and Bachelor in Science (Software Engineering),” added Thairu.

Speaking on Friday during the institution’s 16th graduation ceremony at its main campus in Githurai, Nairobi, Prof Thairu told graduates their time at the institution had not just been about obtaining a degree, it had been about building character, gaining knowledge and developing skills.

More than 4,700 students were conferred with master's degrees and diplomas. Prof Justus Mile, the vice-chancellor, said the institution is setting the standard for women’s education in science and technology.

“The completion of the School of Business and Management building marks another major milestone. This new facility will accommodate larger classes and provide additional offices for the school of, enabling us to meet the growing demand for quality business education,” said Prof Mile.

He said one of their greatest achievements this year was the successful approval of Open and Distance Learning programme, which he said marks a significant step forward in its mission to provide accessible and flexible learning to women in Kenya and beyond.

VC also said that the university has made significant strides in in research, including a recent signing of a partnership with UNESCO ahead of their sixth International Research Conference, which will be held between November 28 to 29, 2024.

“This partnership will enable us to foster greater collaboration in research, innovation and development—key pillars in driving global solutions,” Mile said.

He asked the graduates to join the university in January 2025 for Masters programmes, Degrees and Diplomas and even their first cohort of PhD students in the new year 2025.

“This will forever remain your university, feel much welcome once more,” he said.
