Kepsha Chair appointed to KICD governing council

Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association (Kepsha) Chairman Faud Ali has been appointed as a member of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) Governing Council, a body responsible for overseeing curriculum design and implementation in the country.

Ali’s role at KICD is expected to provide primary school heads with a stronger voice in shaping Kenya’s education system, ensuring that policies are both practical and beneficial to learners and educators alike.

His appointment was formalized in a gazette notice issued on Friday, March 28, 2025, by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba.

Ali’s new role at KICD comes just weeks after he was officially confirmed and sworn in as Kepsha’s national chairman, following the passing of his predecessor, Johnson Nzioka.

He will serve in the leadership position for three years, effective March 28.

Speaking on his appointment, Ali expressed his commitment to ensuring Kenya’s education system meets global standards.

“Curriculum development is at the heart of quality education. I look forward to contributing to the policies and frameworks that will shape the future of our learners,” he said.

The KICD Governing Council plays a crucial role in approving curriculum materials, guiding policy on education content, and advising the government on emerging trends in education.

In addition to Ali’s appointment, Ogamba also named Dr. Peter Maangi Mitiambo as the chairperson of the selection panel for recruiting the Board of the National Commission for Science, Technology, and Innovation (NACOSTI).

Other members of the selection panel include Gilbert Nyandiga, Linda Murila, Edward Wamwenya, Wairimu Njage, Prof. Dickson Andala, and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Embu, Prof. Daniel Mugendi.

The Education CS further appointed Dr. Halima Saado Abdillahi and Simon G. Njoroge as members of the Placement Board of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) for a three-year term.
