Over 100 players in various disciplines are gearing up for the fourth edition of Sara Cup set to be held at the Nairobi Primary School on Saturday.
The expectant participants will look for glory in various disciplines including football, handball, volleyball, net ball, swimming, relays and badminton in the annual event organised by the Tenda Wema Initiative.
The tournament aims to raise Sh3 million to fund education for children from the Sanye and Munyoyaya minority communities, in Lamu and Tana River counties respectively, with the corporates encouraged to partner with the organisers to help realise the dream.
The competition, initiated in 2020, is in honour of a renowned Kenyan educationist and celebrated researcher Dr. Sara Ruto, for her dedication to improving learning outcomes of children furthest left behind.

The yearly contest is always a culmination of several other charitable events specifically aimed to raise funds to educate the marginalized children.
The initiative seeks out needy but not necessarily brainy children, the ones left behind, who are largely invisible in the numerous school scholarships and bursary schemes.
"The kind gesture, hosted by the Zizi Afrique Foundation, also brings players from other sectors like the Zizi Afrique Foundation, PAL Network, Partners and their families for a fun filled sporty day that has one aim; to raise funds for students who may not be the top cream in the national exams but still have a right to pursue their education," the initiative noted.
