Cheche confident ahead of Junior Starlets World Cup qualifier against Uganda

Junior Starlets coach Mildred Cheche believes that her players have what it takes to secure their return to the Fifa Under-17 Women’s World Cup set for Morocco from October 17 to November 8.

The team is currently in camp preparing for their first leg second round qualifying match against neighbours Uganda. The first leg is set for March 8 in Kampala while the second leg will be played in Nairobi on March 16.

Speaking after their friendly match against Women’s Premier League side Police Bullets on Friday, Cheche said that the quality of players in camp is great.

“This year we have great quality players, they are very energetic and compared to last year I think we have both great teams and I believe Kenya is very talented,” Cheche said.

Regarding their challenge against Uganda, the history making tactician who guided Kenya to its first ever World Cup and is looking to achieve the same feat this year said that they expect stiff competition.

“Against Uganda it will be very competitive because all teams want to win and we are preparing hard. We have a big task away, we want to try and get the three points but if it’s too bad then we get at least one point,” she added.  

Starlets showed that they mean business by trouncing reigning FKF-WPL champions Police Bullets 3-0 in a friendly match.

However, they will be wary of the Ugandans who thrashed Namibia 18-1 on aggregate in the first round. The rivalry between the two sides in junior competitions will also be at play.
