Committee to file report on organ trafficking claims at Mediheal within 80 days

The National Assembly Health Committee has launched an inquiry into organ trafficking allegations at Mediheal Hospital in Eldoret.
According to the Committee chairperson, a probe into the Mediheal organ transplant saga is underway, with the team given 80 days to investigate and determine whether professional ethics were followed before presenting a report.
Last week, President William Ruto suspended Swarup Mishra as chairperson of the Kenya BioVax Institute, days after transplant services at Mediheal group of hospitals were suspended.
In a statement on Friday, April 18, the Head of State said the suspension aims to facilitate investigations into allegations of organ trafficking at Mediheal Hospital in Eldoret.

“The suspension shall remain in force pending an investigation into serious allegations of unethical and illegal activities involving kidney transplant procedures at the Mediheal Hospital and Fertility Centre in Eldoret,” said State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed.
The government has reiterated its commitment to fighting corruption and upholding integrity in healthcare, ensuring public safety, and delivering justice to victims.
Mediheal Hospital has faced mounting criticism in recent weeks following an exposé by international media alleging that kidney donors were misled and underpaid.
