The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched investigations into the death of a woman found murdered in Jua Kali, Embakasi.

According to residents, the woman cried for help late Monday night before two men were seen fleeing the scene.

Detectives are treating the case as a homicide.

Witnesses reported hearing a commotion and screams around 1.00 a.m. on Tuesday. When they responded, they saw two men struggling with the woman before fleeing into the darkness.

Authorities believe the assailants abandoned their attack due to the response from residents.

A statement by DCI released Tuesday, March 18, said officers, including crime scene investigators from Nairobi, arrived to find the woman’s unresponsive body with strangulation marks on her neck and her undergarments partially removed.

“The incident that occurred last night was reported by three Jua Kali residents who had responded to a distress call after hearing a commotion near their houses at around midnight,” said DCI.

It added: “The three reported to have found two unknown men forcing themselves on the young woman, but bolted out into the dark at the approach of the responders.’’

Detectives believe the attackers used their bare hands in the assault. It remains unclear whether the woman was sexually assaulted or the motive behind the attack.

The victim believed to be in her early 20s, has not been identified. Her body was moved to the City Mortuary for an autopsy as investigations continue.
