How Ministry is fighting cross-border security threats

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo says the Ministry has made significant achievements in surveillance since embracing the multi-agency approach across borders.

Speaking at the inauguration of the National Border Management Conference in Nairobi, Omollo noted that the approach has enabled the Ministry to enhance border operations and security.

One of the approaches adopted is the use of data which he says has translated to improving the capacity and effectiveness of individual and joint operations.

Further, in coordination with law enforcement agencies, the Ministry says it has been able to quickly respond to cross-border crimes thus reducing the number of cases reported.

"Through enhanced sharing of information and resources among various law enforcement agencies we are progressively reducing the use of forged travel documents; illegal migration; human trafficking; smuggling of weapons; trafficking of narcotics; and laundering of money among other crimes," he said.

Omollo also noted that trade volume has increased as a result of quick and improved clearance of people at points of entry in the country.

He called on relevant ministries to join hands towards "the establishment and implementation of a robust entry and exit system," expressing the Ministry's intent to create stronger bonds of cooperation with stakeholders in border management.

The multi-agency approach was adopted in October 2023 to help fight terrorism in the country.
