President William Ruto has proposed the formation of a committee of heads of state to oversee African Union institutional reforms.
Speaking at Statu House, Nairobi Ruto told various heads of state and governments that the committee will ensure collective ownership of the whole reform process that he champions.
“Given that the implementation of reform priorities is a political process, it is my view that the execution should continue to be guided by the head of states and the government, I will propose to the assembly the formation of the committees,” Ruto said.
According to the AU plans, the reforms include revitalizing the functions, structure, and goals of the African Union Commission, African Union organs, and other affiliated agencies that run the AU programs.
