Ex-Kiambu Governor Waititu hospitalised

Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison for corruption, has been admitted to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after his health allegedly deteriorated while incarcerated at the Industrial Area Prison. 

Waititu's lawyer, John Swaka, confirmed on Friday, February 14 that his client was taken ill and admitted to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

" I confirm that my client (Waititu) has been admitted to KNH today after his deteriorated while in prison facility," Swaka confirmed.

Waititu, who had been detained at the Capital Police Station on Wednesday night following his conviction for corruption-related charges, had fallen sick, prompting his legal team to seek his transfer to a hospital. 

On Thursday, Magistrate Thomas Nzyoki, during the court session, had declined to issue an immediate order to escort Waititu to the hospital, stating that any health issues should be addressed by the prison facility where the former governor began serving his sentence.

However, Waititu's condition worsened while in custody, leading to his admission to KNH.
