Kindiki pledges economic freedom to honour Kenya's freedom fighters

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has pledged to pay Kenya’s debt to freedom fighters by driving economic freedom and uniting the country beyond tribe and politics.

Speaking during Madaraka Day celebrations in Homa Bay on June 1, Kindiki said the current generation owes the one that fought for political freedom.

 “The debt we fight now is for economic freedom of the country,” he said.

Kindiki said the government is investing in value chains in tea, coffee, livestock and fisheries to build a more inclusive economy.

“We are spending more money not only to strengthen value chains but also to support fisher folk and maximise our blue economy,” he explained.

He called for unity across generations and communities.

 “We look forward to your [President Ruto] partnership with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to build a more cohesive Kenya,” Kindiki noted.

“I want to appeal that we also bring on board all generations. The younger people, the older people, the children, and even the generations to come. No generation is superior to the other,” he added.
