The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Youth Council to strengthen its collaboration and partnership in the fight against corruption.

The Commission’s chairperson, Bishop David Oginde, on Thursday, said the MoU will play a critical role in the promotion of good governance.

Oginde termed the partnership a strategic and critical step in the fight against corruption, stating that the youth and society at large suffer the iniquitous effects of corruption and bad governance.

“Corruption is a moral crisis and the youth provide the hope and opportunity to provide a collective effort to advocate for the integrity in society,” said Bishop Oginde.

According to him, the partnership with the youth is critical since the youth have the energy, the voice and creativity to innovate solutions to current challenges in the country.

He challenged the youth to use their numbers to stand for integrity in society and take up their positions in advocating for honesty and their rights.

He said the MoU will provide a platform for collaboration on the areas of empowerment and capacity building of the youth, information sharing, corruption prevention and review of policy and legal frameworks on good governance and the fight against corruption.

Oginde’s sentiments were echoed by the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Youth Affairs and Creative Economy Fikirini Jacobs Katoi Kahindi, who said the Youth will provide an invaluable contribution in the fight against corruption through the creation of awareness and advocacy against corruption by using social media.

The PS affirmed the support of the Commission and the Council in implementing the MoU.

EACC CEO Mr Abdi Mohamud welcomed the partnership as timely and very critical since the collaboration with the youth is part of the Commission’s wider strategies in enlisting the support of the public in the fight against corruption.

Mr Mohamud assured that the commission is committed to full implementation of the MoU to realise the objectives.
