A separate investigation report filed in court now indicates that the mother of a woman claiming to be the daughter of former President Mwai Kibaki never mentioned him in her book. Her identification documents also allegedly show that her father was another man.
In her case, JNL claims she was born in 1961 and that her mother met the late President Kibaki in late the 1950s while they were both students in the United Kingdom..
In a new set of court filings, the woman’s 98-year-old mother has reaffirmed her daughter’s story.
“His Excellency Emilio Mwai Kibaki is the biological father of my daughter,” said the woman, identified in court documents as NML.

She stated that she met Kibaki in the United Kingdom in the late 1950s, when he was studying economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science, while she was pursuing nutrition at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
“Our relationship continued even after we both returned to Kenya upon completing our studies and securing jobs. From that relationship, my daughter was born on Friday, December 1, 1961, at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi,” stated NML. She added that Kibaki was aware of the child’s birth and kept informed about her progress over the years.
In her application, JNL claimed she had sought the intervention of a Catholic bishop to facilitate a meeting with Kibaki’s four children for a possible out-of-court settlement.
“In recognition of our familial ties, I made several attempts to reach out to the petitioners to amicably resolve the succession matter,” said JNL, adding that her efforts were unsuccessful.
Already married
However, a report filed by private investigator Sebastian Omboto, hired by Jimmy Kibaki, indicated that JNL’s father was one JCL. Omboto said his first stop was the National Registration Bureau, where he verified JNL’s documentation. He also visited Hospital Hill Primary School, where the senior head teacher reportedly confirmed that her father was listed as JCL.
The investigator further traced a book authored by JNL’s mother and published in 2005. According to Omboto, the autobiography stated that when she travelled to Britain, she was already married to JCL and had two daughters with him.
He added that the book made no mention of Kibaki among the people she met in the United Kingdom.
“The official Identification Report issued on January 14, 2015, by the Director of National Registration Bureau clearly indicates that JNL’s father is JCL and not the deceased,” reads part of the report. In the case, she claimed that Kibaki’s sons knew that he had a daughter outside marriage.
She further claimed that the late politician Kenneth Matiba, Kenya’s first PhD holder Dr Julius Kiano and former Commissioner of Income Tax GK Ihiga were aware of her birth and her alleged relationship with the late President Mwai Kibaki.
JNL alleged that she was born 15 days before Kibaki married the late First Lady Lucy Kibaki. that The case is scheduled for hearing on May 14 and 19 next year.
