Governor Nyaribo halts salaries for 79 staff over forged academic papers

Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has forwarded to the DCI and EACC the names of 79 County staff who allegedly forged academic documents.
This follows a report from the Kenya National Examinations Council which indicated alterations in mean grades, subject scores and exam center codes.
Nyaribo said in some cases, the index numbers in the certificates did not belong to the officers while others replaced names on certificates with theirs.
Addressing the media this morning, Governor Nyaribo said, “The affected staff had been notified of the investigations and subsequently their salaries stopped.”

He said the affected departments include Health with 24 cases, Finance and Public Service Management 13 cases each.
The governor's office and that of Lands had nine cases each, Education and Environment three cases each and Gender, Trade, and Public Service Board with one case each.
The governor said disciplinary and administrative action against the staff has been initiated.
Irregularly promoted county workers in Nyamira face salary cuts and demotion
"The report will be forwarded to the DCI and Ethics and EACC for further action. The second batch of academic certificates will be submitted to KNEC and middle-level colleges next week for verification,” he said.
According to him, administrative action on irregular promotions will be effected this month against 245 staff when the County Public Service Board completes compiling a report.
"I assure the great people of Nyamira that this exercise is meant to strengthen the civil service for better service delivery,” Nyaribo noted.
Governor Nyaribo said he pledged to the people of Nyamira that he would safeguard the County’s resources, ensure integrity, and uphold the constitution.
“To safeguard the integrity of the payroll and Public Service, the County Government of Nyamira undertook a process of verification and authentication of academic and professional certificates for our staff. The first batch of 2,821 KCSE certificates was submitted to the Kenya National Examination Council for authentication,” he said.
Nyaribo said the Kenya National Examination Council-KNEC submitted a report to the County last month.
