A 40-year-old hawker has been arrested for allegedly defiling his 11-year-old niece in Homa Bay County.
The Grade Six pupil informed a neighbor who reported the matter to the assistant chief of Arujo sub-location Jacktone Olielo leading to the arrest of the hawker.
Olielo said the man who sells wares in Homa Bay Town had made a habit of allegedly defiling the girl who lost her mother, in the pretext of taking care of her.
“The girl lost her mother while the father suffers from a chronic illness. The suspect decided to take her in but he defiled her,” he said.
The assistant chief revealed that the man who is a resident of Ndhiwa Sub-county separated with his wife, before he took in the girl.

“We are told the man had a wife but they separated. He later brought the girl to his house where he has been defiling her,” he added.
The administrator apprehended the suspect and handed him over to police at Homa Bay Police Station.
“We have taken the suspect to the police station where he is being detained for interrogation and further legal action,” he said.
Olielo urged residents to stop abusing children.
“I want our people to be responsible by respecting the rights of children. Stop defiling them and anybody found must suffer punitive legal measures,” he said.
The girl was taken to Homa Bay Referral Hospital for medical examination.
