Kalonzo: My meeting with Gachagua was just coffee, nothing more

 Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has downplayed speculation surrounding his recent meeting with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying it was nothing more than a casual gathering.

Speaking in an interview on KTN, Kalonzo said the meeting, which also included DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa, was simply an opportunity to reconnect.

"It was simple. Very simple. Since the last time we met at the launch of Democratic Action Kenya headquarters, we had not caught up. So we were just catching up," he said.

Kalonzo’s statement comes hours after Gachagua revealed on social media that he had met Kalonzo and Wamalwa in a closed-door session at a hotel in Karen, Nairobi.

 The three reportedly held talks for several hours, with sources indicating they explored the possibility of working together ahead of the 2027 elections.

 Gachagua said their discussions "looked at various emerging issues across the nation and in the region."

However, Kalonzo insisted there was no political agenda behind the meeting.

He revealed that during their conversation, he had a cappuccino, Wamalwa had the same, while Gachagua opted for hot chocolate.

 "I had a lot of very interesting things as we had that coffee. And I think they should remain within that space," he added.

 The former vice president noted that he has had few interactions with Gachagua.

 "I don’t know much about Riggy G, but the first time I saw him, he was talking like [President] William Ruto.

They influence each other’s style of conversation," he noted.

Kalonzo observed that Gachagua still refers to Ruto as "Mr. President," whereas he prefers calling him by name.

He also recounted a humorous moment Gachagua shared about his concerns over a potential unexpected visit from Ruto to his home in Mathira.

"Riggy G and his wife were discussing how they would react if Ruto decided to take a helicopter and land in Wamunyoro. I won’t disclose what he shared, but it tells you we are in one country, one people."

 Kalonzo’s remarks come amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Kalonzo hinted at his presidential ambitions, stating, "It is obvious to all and sundry that we will be in the ballot in 2027 or even earlier."

The Wiper leader also commented on the challenges Gachagua faced when he and his wife, Pastor Dorcas, were blocked from holding a church service.

 "When some militias were unleashed against them, they decided to retreat to their place," he said.
