The immediate former chairperson of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) Board, Irungu Nyakera, has linked his recent dismissal to his strong stance on development, particularly in the Mount Kenya region.
Nyakera, who is also a Kenya Kwanza principal through his Farmers Party, took to social media to express his views on the circumstances surrounding his removal by President William Ruto. His position has since been filled by Samuel Waweru.
"It is unfortunate that the Kenya Kwanza administration prioritizes politically correct leaders for government institutions over competence," he posted.
Nyakera defended his track record, stating that his tenure at both the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) and KICC had been free of corruption or mismanagement allegations.
"I believe my dismissal is linked to a Facebook post I made last week, urging leaders to focus on development rather than politics during President Ruto's visit to Mount Kenya," he asserted.

In the post, Nyakera had announced his absence from Ruto’s regional tour due to his academic commitments at Oxford University.
He also voiced concerns that Mount Kenya leaders supporting the administration could not critique the Kenya Kwanza government without being perceived as anti-government.
"This administration does not tolerate criticism, which is a worrying sign for democracy," Nyakera remarked, adding that he would continue advocating for issues affecting Kenyans.
His dismissal was formalized through a special gazette notice dated April 1, 2025.
