20,025 candidates sit for KPSEA in West Pokot county

The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) kicked off smoothly across West Pokot county on Monday, with 20,025 candidates from public and private schools sitting for the exams.

The candidates include 18,692 pupils from public schools—9,326 boys and 9,366 girls—and 1,333 pupils from private schools, comprising 630 boys and 703 girls.

The exams are being conducted in 680 centres across the county, with 624 in public schools and 56 in private institutions.

Speaking during the official opening of the exam materials distribution in Kapenguria, West Pokot County Education Director Simon Wamae confirmed that despite challenges posed by ongoing heavy rains, the examination was proceeding as planned.

“We have taken measures to ensure everything runs smoothly, and we don’t expect any cheating during the exams. This year, we have more girls than boys sitting for the exams in the county,” said Mr. Wamae.

West Pokot Sub-County Commissioner Wycliffe Munanda, who was also present at the distribution centre, assured that strict security protocols were in place.

“We have assigned two security officers to escort exam materials, but they will not be allowed inside examination centers,” he said.

Teachers Service Commission Deputy Director in West Pokot John Paul Wepoe said no challenges have been experienced and expressed confidence that the exams would continue smoothly.

With the KPSEA exams underway, officials are optimistic that all candidates will complete their assessments without any disruptions, marking a significant milestone for education in West Pokot county.
