An officer attached to the Presidential Escort Unit is under investigation for murder.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is also investigating police officer Lankas Tubula alias Mkoloni for illegal possession of firearms.
Tubula was on Tuesday presented before a Nakuru court after his arrest, with the police seeking to detain him for 21 days to probe the murder of Phillip Kipchirchir.

Sergeant Lucas Juma informed Senior Resident Magistrate Emmanuel Soita that evidence linked Tubula to the November 25 murder at Kapkures village in Angata Barrikoi, Narok County.
“We urge the court to detain the suspect (Tubula) for 21 days pending investigation, forensic examination and statement recording,” submitted Juma.
Juma said Tubula was arrested on December 29 in Kilgoris town.
Together with others who are at large, Juma said witnesses identified Tubula as the person who shot Kipchirchir and reported the matter at Angata Barrikoi Police Station under OB 05/25/11/2025.
“The witnesses said Tubula shot Kipchirchir at close range while another suspect hacked him, causing a deep cut on the hip,” submitted Juma.
He added that the deceased had serious gunshot wounds to the chest and a deep machete cut on the hip, with a postmortem report stating that he died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds to the chest.
The detective said that, on December 28, police were reliably informed that Tubula was travelling to Angata Barrikoi for an unknown mission and they arrested him.
Upon searching him, they recovered his certificate of appointment, national identity card, two phones, a dagger and two copies of ID cards belonging to people believed to be close family members.
According to Juma, the murder they were investigating was one of several similar cases arising from ongoing tribal clashes between two warring communities residing within Transmara South.
He informed the court that Tubula needed to be detained during investigations, claiming that he directly contacted one of the key witnesses and threatened him with dire consequences.
Juma said police believe that Tubula would interfere with investigations, if he was released on bail.
The court will give its verdict on Tubula’s bail request on Wednesday.
