Police in Kakamega have launched an investigation into the death of Dr. Jairus Omuteche, a senior lecturer at Masinde Muliro University.
His body was found floating in the Jordan River after a three-day search.
Dr. Omuteche, 48, had been missing since Saturday. His body was discovered 15 kilometres from his home in Vihiga County, far from where he was last seen.
According to his wife, Dr. Omuteche, a senior lecturer in Literature and chairperson of the Department of Language and Literature Education, had gone to his farm near the river to gather sticks for his cowshed.

When he failed to return, his family and colleagues launched a search.
The body was removed on Tuesday near the intersection of the Jordan River and River Yala.
The discovery confirmed the worst fears of his family and friends, amid growing concerns over the disappearance and deaths of individuals.
Western Regional Commissioner Irungu Macharia confirmed the investigation is ongoing.
“This is a very tragic incident,” Macharia said.
“We are working closely with local authorities to uncover the facts and ensure the investigation is thorough and transparent.”
While initial reports suggest drowning may have been the cause of death, there are concerns about foul play.
Some sources speculate that Dr. Omuteche may have been murdered elsewhere and his body dumped in the river, though authorities have not confirmed these claims.
Dr. Omuteche, known for his work in Black Diasporic Literature, Popular Culture, and Postcolonial Studies, had more than 15 years of experience in teaching and research.
He was also deeply involved in mentoring postgraduate students and providing career counseling to students in Vihiga County.
His body was transported to Itando Mission Hospital for a postmortem.
Both the university community and his family mourned the loss of a dedicated educator.
The investigation continues, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward.
