Twenty pupils from Tenri Primary School in Embu County flew out to Japan last night for a two-week educational and cultural exchange visit.
The trip marks the revival of a long-standing partnership between Tenri Primary and Japanese schools and organizations, which had been paused since 2017 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tenri Primary has strong ties with Japan, including Japanese language instruction for all pupils, student exchange programs, and support from the Japanese NGO ACEF (Asia Child Education Fund).
School Director James Kariuki described the visit as a unique learning opportunity that will expose the pupils to Japan’s culture, education system, and way of life.
“This program helps our pupils appreciate different cultures and opens their minds to global perspectives,” said Kariuki.
The exchange visit will run for two weeks, during which the pupils will engage in school activities, cultural experiences, and home stays with Japanese families.
