Police retrieve bodies of two JKUAT students after drowning

The two drowned at Park and Chill dam.

Police have retrieved bodies of two students of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) who drowned while swimming in the Titanic dam, Kiambu county.

According to a police report, at around 1600 hours on Sunday, community members from Muthuga, Juja sub-county, reported the incident.

The two have been identified as Abel Ontuga Mikaye, 22, and Dansteph Matoke, 21. Witnesses reported that both drowned while swimming, despite futile rescue efforts.

The public promptly informed the authorities in Juja, who quickly responded to the scene.

The bodies of the two students were later removed from the dam and transported to General Kago Hospital Mortuary in Thika, where they await post-mortem examinations to determine the exact cause of death.

Authorities have advised the public to be cautious when participating in recreational activities near water bodies to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.

The place is prone to such incidents; in January 2023, two individuals, a man and a woman, also drowned in the same waters.
