Eight buffaloes were electrocuted near the Lake Nakuru National Park resulting in their immediate demise.

In a statement, Kenya Wildlife Services spokesman Paul Jinaro said the incident occurred after the buffaloes came into contact with high-voltage power lines from a broken cross-arms.

The wooden cross-arms, carrying 33 high-voltage had fallen due to heavy rainfall in that area, forcing its lines to lay low on the ground.

“Eight buffaloes were electrocuted near Wildlife Clubs of Kenya (WCK) in Lake Nakuru National Park, killing them on the spot. The unfortunate incident occurred after the buffaloes got into contact with high-voltage power lines lying low on the ground,” read a statement by KWS.

According to JInaro, Kenya Power officials contained the situation and replaced the cross-arms were with metallic ones to avoid a similar incident in the future.
