A DCI officer based at Changamwe Police Station in Mombasa County has been arrested and arraigned on bribery charges.

Sergeant Thomas Nahashon Kibet was accused of soliciting and receiving a bribe of Ksh20,000, with an initial payment of Ksh10,000, to terminate a criminal case against the complainant.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officials arrested the officer on Thursday after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) approved his prosecution. He was charged on Friday before Mombasa Chief Magistrate Alex Ithuku and denied the charges.

Kibet was released on a bond of Ksh300,000 or a cash bail of Ksh100,000. The case will be mentioned on February 10, 2025.
