President's Award programme rolls out in Mandera

It was a new dawn for a section of young people in Mandera as they participated in the president's Award-Kenya that was rolled out in the county.

This significant occasion presided over by the principal secretary for youth affairs and creative economy Ismail Madey was overwhelmingly attended by youngsters drawn from tertiary institutions in the county.

In pursuit to encourage the young people from KMTC and Technical training institutes to participate in this transformative program, the PS reminds them of the presence of those institutions in North Eastern counties

"The presence of these three vital institutions; KMTC, technical training institutes TTI, and teachers training college TTC in Mandera is not by chance. It represents our government's unwavering commitment to bringing quality education closer to our youth in frontier counties." Said Madey

The Award is an extracurricular activity that is active in colleges and universities, providing opportunities for students aged 14-24 to participate in various sections of the programme.

The PS had urged all learning institutions in Mandera County through the Principals to take full advantage of those opportunities before them.

"It is a life changing opportunity that will allow our young people develop universal skills, get physically active, give back to their communities and experience adventure." he said

"The future of Mandera County and Kenya lies in your hands." he added

The award comprises of three levels including Bronze, Silver and Gold. It also has four sections such as Service, Skills, Physical Recreation and Adventurous Journey.

According to Margaret Kiogora the chief executive officer for PA-K said over 120,000 young people are participating in the Award in over 1,200 schools, Universities, Middle-level Colleges and Youth groups.

Rehabilitation centers and open Award Centers across the country have also participated in the president's award program.

"Globally, more than one million young people are striving to achieve their Bronze, Silver, or Gold Awards in more than 140 countries and territories." Said Miss Kiogora

The Award’s global ambition is that every young person between 14-24 years old gets the opportunity to participate in the Award and to challenge themselves and build on the universal skills that will serve them and their communities for years to come.
