Kenyatta University launches review to address performance gaps

Kenyatta University (KU) has begun a comprehensive performance review to tackle persistent issues, including low graduation rates, outdated academic programmes and limited research commercialisation.

The review will evaluate critical areas including student retention, Ph.D. enrolment, curriculum updates and the effectiveness of research dissemination.

Dr. Ben Chumo, Chairperson of the University Council, and acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Waceke Wanjohi are leading the evaluation.

“We must assess where we stand and identify gaps that hinder our progress,” said Dr. Chumo.

Prof. Wanjohi said the review is key to aligning the university’s strategies with national goals and adapting to the shifting educational landscape.

“The results will shape the university’s future direction,” she added.

Deputy Chief of Staff for Performance and Delivery Management, Eliud Owalo who is spearheading the process highlighted the importance of aligning public institutions with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

“This review ensures accountability and that institutions meet their national responsibilities,” Owalo said.
