Health Cabinet Secretary Debora Barasa has eulogised Dr. Faustine Ndugulile as a visionary leader who dedicated his life to advancing healthcare in Tanzania and across Africa.

Dr. Ndugulile died on Tuesday, November 27, while receiving treatment in India.

He had been elected as the World Health Organization (WHO) Africa’s regional director-elect in August.

Barasa praised Ndugulile’s commitment to equitable healthcare, stating, “His notable contributions as Tanzania's Deputy Minister of Health further cement his legacy as a champion of equitable healthcare and a servant leader committed to improving lives across the continent.”

WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus also expressed shock over Ndugulile’s passing.

“Shocked and deeply saddened to learn about the sudden passing of Dr Faustine Ndugulile.

My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends, and the parliament and people of Tanzania,” Ghebreyesus said.

Ndugulile served as a member of parliament for Kigamboni before his election to the WHO post.
