Gas station explodes in Ngara

An explosion at a gas station on Desai Road, Ngara, has left property worth thousands destroyed. [Emmanuel Kipchumba, Standard]

A gas explosion has been reported at a station on Desai Road in Ngara, Nairobi.

The incident allegedly occurred early Sunday, September 1, and is believed to have been triggered by a transformer malfunction.

Witnesses shared video clips of the incident, showing flames erupting, on X.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said the fire has been contained and no casualties have been reported.

The incident left business owners counting losses with occupants of the affected house losing all their belongings. 

Bungei said investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
