NTSA awarded for digital transformation

President William Ruto presents award Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir and NTSA Director General George Njao.

National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has been recognised with a presidential award for its successful digital transformation.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir and NTSA Director General George Njao received the award from President William Ruto on Monday, November 27 in Nairobi.

“By digitising services, NTSA has made it easier for Kenyans to access transport services, whether renewing driving licences or processing vehicle transactions, directly from their phones,” said Chirchir.

Since migrating to eCitizen earlier this year, over 21 million transactions have been processed, including driving licence renewals, logbook acquisitions, and motor vehicle inspections.

Ruto also issued a one-week deadline to the CEOs of 34 government agencies to onboard their services to eCitizen or face disciplinary action.

Among those named were the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA), Kenya Airports Authority (KPA), and the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

“These entities have yet to comply with my directive that their services must be on eCitizen so Treasury can track government revenue. They have one week to comply, or they can make use of the door,” Ruto said.

The president praised eCitizen’s impact on service delivery, job creation, and revenue collection, which funds various government projects.

“Today, we celebrate a milestone reflecting our commitment to a connected, efficient, and equitable public service system,” he said.

Data shows eCitizen has reduced delays in areas such as driving licence renewals, business registration, and marriage certificate applications.
