Brigadier (Rtd) Joseph Muracia, the CEO of the Nairobi Rivers Commission, has been dismissed from office over allegations of gross misconduct, corruption, and nepotism.

Muracia’s ouster was approved on Tuesday during a commissioners' meeting chaired by Margaret Wanjiru.

Speaking on the matter, Wanjiru confirmed that the decision was reached through a secret ballot.

“He was suspended, and during a commissioners' meeting, a vote was conducted through a secret ballot, leading to his dismissal,” she told The Standard on phone.

Muracia had been appointed to the commission by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The Nairobi Rivers Commission, established less than two years ago, was tasked with overseeing the cleaning and rehabilitation of Nairobi’s rivers.

Its mandate includes examining reports and recommendations on reclaiming the rivers, ensuring compliance with environmental laws, and safeguarding the basin and its catchment areas.
