Kenya has been urged to utilise her rich culture and heritage to foster collaboration with other countries for development.

Speaking during Xinhua News Agency photo exhibition, China Ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan, said culture is a powerful tool that Kenya can leverage to foster understanding and cooperation for shared prosperity.

Haiwan cited Standard Gauge Railway funded by Chinese government as one of the iconic development projects that close bilateral ties between the two countries have realised.

“We hope to deepen our exchanges with all of you and together contribute to the realisation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Innovation of Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind,” she said.

Standard Group PLC Operations Editor Andy Kagwa, while representing the organisation’s Chief Executive Officer, Marion Mwangi, expressed the need to improve archiving techniques of Kenya’s culture.

“The images have been able to capture what the Chinese government has been able to do in Kenya, especially in terms of development-infrastructure, that we cherish as nation,” he said.

He said the country needs to emulate China in “archiving the historical materials which has a rich way of telling our stories without using words.”

The images of the century exhibition organised by Xinhua News Agency in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy showcased different Chinese heritage, telling stories about the country’s resilience from the past to present.

Vice President of Xinhua News Agency Yuan Bingzhong noted that culture defines unforgettable moments that inspires communities to look and redefine their future for purposes of growth.

“The strength cooperation built on cultural ties is unrivaled,” he said, promising to continue their partnership with Kenyan media.
