Davis Chirchir: My net worth rose 'slightly' by Sh27 million

Davis Chirchir, nominee for the position of Roads and Transport CS before the Committee on Appointments at the Mini Chambers, County Hall, Nairobi. August 2nd,2024 [Elvis Ogina, Standard]

In just 22 months in office, Transport CS nominee Davis Chirchir's net worth increased by Sh27 million, a value he describes as "just a slight increase."

During his vetting by the Committee on Appointments, Chirchir disclosed that his net worth rose to Sh509 million from Sh482 million in 2022.

However, Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung'wah raised concerns, arguing that the reported net worth does not align with the listed properties.

"These variations are not accurate and do not reflect your true net worth as of now," said Ichung'wah.

In his defense, Chirchir explained that the property in question, Spring Valley, was acquired at a low value, hence its appreciation.

Chirchir stated that the value of the house at Spring Valley remains at Sh95 million, the same value he reported in 2022.

Ichung'wah argued that the value of the house could not remain the same 22 months later.

Chirchir noted that he did not have enough time to re-evaluate the property but would do so and submit the updated value to the committee.

Other listed assets belonging to the nominated CS include farms, rental property in Westlands, Matundu land, and vehicles.
