Late marathoner Samuel Wanjiru's widow begins hunt for late 'grabbed' property

Teresia Njeri, the widow of the late marathoner Samuel Kamau Wanjiru, has embarked on recovering a prime property that belonged to her late husband that was allegedly grabbed in Nyahururu town.

Speaking to the press alongside Njeri, her lawyer Ndegwa Wahome said it was just recently when going through Wanjiru’s documents that they discovered the property.

“We recently discovered that the late Wanjiru owned a prime plot in Nyahururu town. A local businessman had illegally taken over the property but we are going for it,” Ndegwa said.

He added that he had engaged the land registrar and established that there were no records on how and who authorised the property on behalf of the family.

“Records indicate that the property was transferred to the businessman in 2016. This was done without Njeri’s knowledge and the transfer is suspect since Kamau died in 2011,” said Ndegwa.

The lawyer, who was appointed to manage the properties of the late marathoner by Njeri revealed that some family members had been eyeing some of the properties.

“Unfortunately, the widow has to consistently fight people she thought she would depend on after her husband’s death. Instead, they keep seeking to disinherit her,” he said.

The lawyer noted that the court had already made a ruling in the succession case and distributed Kamau’s estate to his widow and their two children, now aged 18 and 15.

“Anyone who wants part of Kamau’s wealth can only get it if the beneficiaries approve such transfer. As our clients, we shall defend her unless she instructs us otherwise,” said Ndegwa.

Njeri took issue with a section of social media users saying that recent debates were negatively affecting her children who are now of majority age and asked bloggers to desist from positing negative information about her.
