Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been jailed for 12 years, a day after he was found guilty in a Sh588 million graft case alongside his wife and four others.
His wife, Susan Wangari, has been handed a one-year jail term and Sh500,000 fine in default.
Millimani Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzyoki has further barred Waititu, his wife and the co-accused from holding any public office for 10 years.
Waititu’s other co-accused are businessman Charles Mbuthia Chege, his wife Beth Wangechi, and former Kiambu Roads Chief Officer Luka Mwangi Wahinya.
They were found guilty of a corruption scheme to defraud the county government millions of shillings
Also sentenced is former Kiambu County Chief Officer Roads and Transport Engineer Luka Mwangi Wahinya. He has been fined Sh21 million in default to serve seven years in prison for the offence of abusing his office by awarding the multi-million tender to unqualified firm.
Businessman Charles chege, Director of testimony Enterprises Limited that was awarded the tender fraudently by Kiambu County Government has been fined Sh295 million or serve nine years in prison.
His wife Beth Wangechi has been fined Sh1.4 million in default to serve two years four months in jail.
