Political parties are not leaving anything to chance as they rush to put their houses in order, which includes membership registration, in readiness for the 2027 elections.

From United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Jubilee to Narc Kenya, Wiper and Ford Kenya, among others, they are putting their best foot forward to re-strategise, given the critical role that numbers and structures play in political circles and particularly in an election.

Today, Narc Kenya is going purple. The party, led by Martha Karua is rebranding and will be known as People’s Liberation Party of Kenya (PLP) with the slogan ‘unite, liberate’.

From the usual red and white colours, PLP will now use purple, lilac and white, to represent their the new outlook.

Karua said PLP speaks to all Kenyans, as the party seeks to liberate the country from bad practices, economic and social wars as well as security and education challenges.

“The purpose of the brand reveal is for people to know we are going from the red rose, to the purple rose, we remain a flower party. Flowers symbolise love, friendship and peace,” Karua said.

“We need to liberate ourselves, our slogan is now ‘unite, liberate’. We need unity of purpose, we need to come together as Kenyans and clean up the mess that has become our country and return it back to the rule of law and to a country that serves its people not the ruling elite alone,” she explained.

Karua has also said the youth will have a major stake in the party, including top leadership positions and will be more involved in activities and decision making. At the same time, ODM which is also celebrating 20 years of existence, has planned various activities like opening branch offices and continuous registration of members.

“We shall open our Bungoma County office on February 27 in Kanduyi. This is aimed at enhancing our services to members and also ensuring we maintain our strength and stability in the County as part of the ODM at 20 celebrations,” the party has alerted its members.

Tomorrow, the party will be in Western. Party leader Raila Odinga has said he will make a major announcement next week on his next political move after losing the African Union Commission (AUC) chairman elections two weeks ago.

“That chapter is now behind us, now we are moving forward, there was going to be life after Addis Ababa and that is why I am back here and before I make any comprehensive statement, I was going to consult widely. I will make a statement next week, I wanted to tell you also, watch this space,” said Raila after meeting leaders in Kisumu on Tuesday.

On Monday, Raila held consultations with President William Ruto at State House Mombasa, where he announced plans to hold further consultations with his friends and other stakeholders on the state of affairs and make a major pronouncement in the coming few days.

ODM chairperson, Gladys Wanga attended a party delegates meeting in Likoni, Mombasa over the weekend, who insisted that they are a party to beat in the next general election.

She said the grassroots leaders have a big role in expanding the party and urged them to keep popularising the party and hold it together.
