Former Chepalungu Member of Parliament (MP) John Koech has died, his family has confirmed.
Koech died on Monday evening while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital.
Julius Kones, a politician and a Former Konoin MP, remembered Koech as a person who, despite holding a public position, led a humble life.
‘’Curtains have fallen for one of the longest serving leaders from Bomet. He was passionate about education and championed for development in the community.”
He served as the MP for Chepalungu from 1979 to 2007 and held various government positions during his political career.
He was the Minister for Public Works between 1988 and 1989 and Minister for East African and Regional Cooperation from 2006 to 2007.
Before joining Cabinet, Koech was Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
He lost his parliamentary seat in the 2007 General Election to Isaac Ruto. That same year, he was dismissed from the Cabinet for supporting opposition leader Raila Odinga against then-late President Mwai Kibaki.
Koeach was also a governor aspirant in the 2013 elections.
