Political and religious leaders are calling for collaborative efforts to end shocking cases of murder that have claimed the lives of people in Homa Bay County in four days.
On Saturday alone, six people were killed at different places in the county. The majority of cases involved love triangles.
The murders have appalled residents, causing fear over moral decadence in the area.
Homa Bay Woman Rep Joyce Osogo, Nyakach MP Aduma Owuor, and Africa Inland Church (AIC) Bishop in the county Benard Ondiek want concerted efforts to stop murder in the county.
Speaking at AIC church in Homa Bay Town, Dr. Osogo said the murder has caused a serious setback in the county.
“Our county is currently mourning the deaths of many people who have not been buried because of murder. There is no reason that warrants the murder of this nature,” Osogo said.
Dr Osogo called on all government agencies, social organisation leaders, and residents to restore morality and security in the society.
“Let all government officials, including the security agencies and the Department of Gender, and the community collaborate to stop murder in this county. Nobody should be killed in this county anymore,” Osogo added.
Owuor said there was a need for proper collaboration to boost security in the area. “Security begins with an individual. Let the people collaborate with security agencies to address crime,” Owuor said.
Bishop Ondiek told residents to shun the spirit of murder. He said murder is a recipe for curses in society and should be stopped at all costs.
“I urge my fellow religious leaders to join hands in teaching residents on morality and the word of God. Let residents shun the spirit of murder and violence,” Ondiek said.
