Mt.Kenya waiting for Uhuru's direction - Kioni says

Jubilee party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni on Radio Maisha.

Jubilee party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni now says that Mount Kenya voters are regretting having ignored former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s warning over his successor.

Speaking on Radio Maisha on Monday, Kioni said the larger Mount Kenya region is waiting for the former president to give direction on 2027 politics.

“Many will try forming parties but the truth is that Mount Kenya residents have admitted that in 2022 the mountain made a mistake when we ignored Uhuru’s warning. It's not that we are waiting for him to come back but for him to guide us, we will be grateful,” Kioni said.

Kenyatta had initially warned the Mt.Kenya region against voting for his then-deputy William Ruto in August 2022.

Lately, the former president has been so vocal in criticising President Ruto’s administration.

He said that there is rage in Mt.Kenya over former DP Rigathi  Gachagua’s impeachment and that's why a majority of the leaders are finding time to console him.

Apart from the impeachment, he detailed that the mountain has been angered by the state of the nation including the Gen-Z protests, the 2024 Finance bill among others.

Kioni further alleged that there is division in the ruling party, the United Democratic Alliance.

He has urged the anti-Ruto faction to work towards removing him from the presidency.

“Anything that is being done by UDA B now should focus on ensuring that they don't do anything that could bring Ruto back to power for another 5 years,” said Kioni.

The SG firmly rooted for Fred Matiangi’s candidature for the presidential position highlighting his understanding of previous government projects operations like the Huduma number, Competency Based Curriculum, and the Universal Health Coverage.
