The Agikuyu Council of Elders has endorsed National Liberal Party (NLP) Leader Augustus Kyalo Muli to seek support in the Mt. Kenya region for his 2027 presidential bid.

Council Chair Wachira Kiago, during a meeting in Nairobi, urged Muli to engage leaders and residents in Mt. Kenya to build a coalition before the next election.

Kiago also encouraged Muli to reach out to Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka to unite the Kamba vote for stronger bargaining power.

“We give our blessings to Muli and welcome him to speak to all our GEMA people and its leaders,” said Kiago.

The meeting was attended by members of the Agikuyu Council of Elders’ executive, representatives from the Kamba Council of Elders and NLP Chair Teddy Kenyatta.

Muli, who was recently elected NLP leader, noted the meeting was part of efforts to engage different regions ahead of the elections.

“I assure the Mt. Kenya region, the GEMA community and Kenyans that I will offer leadership that unites the country,” said Muli.

The endorsement by the council comes as different groups position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, where regional alliances are expected to influence the presidential race.
