A mother of five has been arrested after homicide detectives exhumed the bodies of her two daughters, aged 12 and 9, who were secretly buried in a shallow grave at their Nyatembe village home in Sotik, Bomet County.

The woman, who was cohabiting with a man, had been missing for two weeks before neighbours discovered the shallow grave in a tea plantation next to the home.

According to area chief Lenny Kirui, police have launched a manhunt for the man linked to the murders.

Police exhumed the bodies after obtaining a court order on Tuesday evening.

The woman is being held at Sotik Police Station, and the bodies were taken to Kapkatet Hospital mortuary.
