Two morticians charged in Nakuru court over missing child body

Two morticians have been charged in a Nakuru court for obstructing the burial of a 7-month-old child whose body went missing two weeks ago.

 Chief Mortician Michael Nderitu and his deputy, Mary Macharia, were arraigned before Nakuru Principal Magistrate Ruth Kefa on Tuesday afternoon. They denied the charge of unlawfully hindering the burial of the child.

 According to the charge sheet, Nderitu and Macharia were accused of failing to release the body of Mercy Chepng'eno, who died on February 6, 2025, at Nakuru Provincial General Hospital. Her body had been transferred to the morgue for preservation, but when mourners arrived for the burial, they were told the body was missing.

The court granted the morticians bail, setting the amount at Sh200,000 with surety or an alternative cash bail of Sh100,000. The case is scheduled for mention on  March 11.
