Charles Lokiyoto has been elected as the new speaker of the Turkana County Assembly.
Lokiyoto garnered 30 votes in the election conducted on Thursday, March 13, beating his closest opponent, Abraham Losinyen, who got 14 votes.
A total of 44 MCAs participated in the election.
He replaces Christopher Nakuleu, who resigned in February this year.
Nakuleu stepped down when members of the county assembly tabled a motion seeking to remove him from office over gross misconduct allegations.
He was allegedly involved in a relief food scandal where he failed to purchase a stock of beans.
