Natembeya heckled for criticising Ruto at Malulu's funeral

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya on Monday found himself in trouble after angry mourners switched off the microphone he was using while criticising President William Ruto’s policies at the home of the late Malava MP Malulu Injendi.

Trouble started when nominated Kakamega Member of County Assembly Joel Okwako urged mourners not to believe President Ruto's claims that the Social Health Authority (SHA) and the university funding model are functioning effectively.

The situation escalated when the MCA invited Governor Natembeya to address the mourners.

Natembeya immediately began criticizing the leadership of President Ruto, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula under the banner of his 'Tawe' Movement.

However, Natembeya's microphone was muted, forcing him to address the crowd without amplification.

“We want to say ‘Tawe’ to bad leadership and corruption. Our leaders are at the top, and Kenyans are on their own. We must say no to politicians hiring people to cause violence in funerals,” said Natembeya.

However, the crowd became hostile, chanting pro-Ruto slogans, forcing the first-time governor to get into his car and flee.

The mourners threw stones at the governor’s motorcade as Natembeya drove away.

Natembeya had earlier arrived at the home of the late Member of Parliament (MP) and gifted the family with a cow to slaughter during the burial on Tuesday.
