Police in the Navakholo Constituency are holding a 19-year-old Form Four student for allegedly murdering a Form Two student for refusing to abort her one month old pregnancy.
The two are said to have been in a romantic relationship.
Navakholo OCPD Christopher Kirui confirmed the incident.
“The report we have is that, since both sides of the families know the romantic relationship of the two, the deceased parents reported the boy to his family for being responsible for the pregnancy and when the suspect knew he had been reported, he convinced the girl to do an abortion but his request fell on deaf ears,” said Kirui.
The OCPD added that the unsatisfied and unhappy suspect went to the girl's parents' home at around 4 am, a visit the deceased sister was aware of, and the two discussed before they left all together later for the girl to be found dead.
Kirui said they have launched investigations into the matter as they await to arraign the suspect.
According to sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, after the alleged murder, the suspect went to school and proceeded to the kitchen, where he requested water, alleging that he wanted to take some medicine.
“He was given water before he proceeded behind his classroom alleging that it was time to take his medicine. We did not trace any blood spot on him but we are investigating to establish the purpose of the water which we don’t want to preempt until we are done with our investigations, "said one of the sleuths.
The body of the deceased was found just a few metres from their home.
However, in a retaliatory attack, irate locals stormed the suspect's home and torched nine houses before destroying crops and other properties.
According to the deceased's grandfather Robert Wesamba, the cause of the unfortunate incident started on Friday last week when he reported to the father of the suspect that his son was responsible for the pregnancy.
“On Friday last week, she came from school feeling unwell, and when I took her to the hospital, it turned out that she was pregnant, and after interrogation, she confessed that her boyfriend was responsible for the pregnancy,” said Wesamba.
Wesamba alleged that the suspect murdered her granddaughter after she declined to have an abortion.
“I think he was informed about the pregnancy, and he made several attempts to convince my granddaughter to do away with the pregnancy so that they can continue with their education, and when she refused, he decided to come to my home as early as 4 a.m. He left with the girl before he killed her. She had a deep cut and other injuries on the head, meaning they had an argument that resulted in a fight and later death, "said Wesamba.
Namirama Sub-Location Assistant Chief Steve Nawande opines that he has been against the relationship of the two students.
“I have been against this relationship, and to some extent, parents from both sides failed in their roles. The suspect had even been sleeping in the girl’s house before he woke up, rushing to their home to put on school uniform before proceeding to school,” said Nawade.
