ICT and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo has pledged to operationalise 1,450 digital hubs across the country, ensuring internet access and government services are accessible to all.
Kabogo acknowledged the importance of Artificial Intelligence and other and other technological advancements but warned against their misuse. He emphasised the need for public education on these tools to safeguard Kenya’s future.
He spoke when he took over the docket from Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi.
Mudavadi praised Kabogo’s leadership experience, noting his tenure as a governor, parliamentarian and businessman.
Fairness and equity
“He’s courageous and forthright,” said Mudavadi. “My request is that you give him your full support so he can serve Kenyans with fairness and equity.”
He emphasised the potential of the ministry to drive job creation and technological advancement.
Reflecting on his past achievements in the sector, Mudavadi highlighted Kenya’s milestones, including the liberalisation of airwaves and the establishment of the Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK). He urged the new leadership to further embrace technology, noting that “technology is now a lifeline.”
Kabogo expressed gratitude for the opportunity and outlined his vision for the ministry. “I give 100 per cent trust upfront; it’s up to you to maintain or lose it,” he said.
